Prophylaxis

• Prosthetic heart valves

• bio/mechanical

• Rheumatic valvular heart disease

• Previous endocarditis

• Unrepaired cyanotic congenital heart disease

• palliative shunts/conduits

• surgical/catheter repair of congenital heart disease wihtin 6mo of repair procedure

Dental procedures

all dental procedures that involve manipulation of gingival tissue or periapical region of teeth or perforation of the oral mucosa

The following do Not need prophylaxis:

• routine anaesthetic injections through no-infected

• taking dental radiographs

• placement of removable prosthodontic/orthodonctic appliances

• adjustment of orthodontic appliance

• placement of orthodontic brackets

• shedding of deciduosu teeth

• bleeding from trauma to lips or oral mucosa

Antibiotic regime:

• Amoxil 2g (50mg/kg) administered

  • orally - 1hr before

  • IV just before

  • IM 30min before

non-dental

• do NOT

  • surgery involving respiratory mucosa

  • bronchoscopy

  • Oesophagela, GI or hepatobiliary procedures

  • GI endoscopy

  • GU/Gynae procedures

  • vaginal / caesarean delivery

  • cardicac procedures
